Mineralogy and leachability of steel slags


Project description

In the project MiLeSlag the mineralogy and leachability of different steel slags were investigated. The results were combined with geochemical and metallurgical models to develop a fundamental model which can trace back the leaching behaviour of steel slags via the mineralogy to metallurgical parameters. Finally, the obtained results were applied to conduct first laboratory and pilot scale tests to optimise the leaching behaviour by treatment of the liquid steel slag. This might lead to a broader and superior application of these materials on a long term scale, especially in Austria.

Projekt results

Possible leaching controlling mechanisms were identified for the elements Cr and V. A targeted minimization of the release could be achieved in lab tests and on a pilot plant scale.
